Your Compassion in Action !

We are sharing the real life stories of the some of those who have benefited from your kindness !

1. D was 8 years old when his family fell into misfortune and debt and had to leave their village to seek better fortunes in a city. With both his parents he moved to Bangalore. His mother was employed as a cook, father could not be employed due to a heart illness. They could not afford to rent a house and chose to live in a car garage, sharing space with the car at night ! Despite great hardships he persevered to educate himself in a Govt. school, secured high marks and then went on to do a vocational technical course. To him this was just the beginning, his dreams were bigger. He wanted to do B.E. Engineering in one of the top engineering colleges in Bangalore. Subsequently, through merit, he obtained a B.E. Computer Science admission to a prestigious University, against all odds. He however was unable to pay the fees to join this University. Through your contributions, Kaarunya Trust has been to be able to help him join University and fulfill his dreams ! He still lives in a garage, but thanks to you, we are positive that he will graduate with honours and elevate his family from poverty!!

2. K lost his mother at a very young age and was since deserted by his father. The orphaned child was brought up by his grandmother, who works as a cook earning just enough to fend for the family. The grandmother noticed the boy was bright and put him in a mission school in Chennai, from where K passed +2 with good scores, securing B. Com admission in a prestigious Men’s college in Chennai. Neither K nor his grandmother had the hope he would pursue college education; thanks to a nice Samaritan in their neighborhood, K was referred to Kaarunya for educational assistance. The grandmother is positive the boy will successfully complete his college education and relieve her of years of hard-work and toiling in the kitchen of several families.

3. P is a hard working bright girl, daughter of a slum dweller in Jafferkhanpet. Her father promised her a college education; unfortunately, the floods that ravaged Chennai in December 2015 brought the family to the roads. Since then, the father has been doing two jobs in a day, working from the wee hours of the morning, to rebuild their lost lives and the child’s dream was long forgotten. The Government Girls higher secondary School where P studied recognized her talent and referred her to Kaarunya. The family was moved to tears when they learnt her college education would be supported by Kaarunya; she now pursues B. Sc Computer science in one of the city women’s colleges.

There must be several stories like these in our country. We feel, by supporting one deserving child in each family we will be able to lift the whole family from poverty. This year, we are also proud that the majority of our beneficiaries are girl children, who in many poor families are often neglected due to financial and social constraints.
